Vietnam is a narrow strip of land whose shape resembles the letter S of 128000 square miles spreading in the tropics below the Himalayas is inhabited by 86 million people, of whom 50% are under 25.
 
Located at the center of Southeast Asia, Eastern edge of the Indochinese peninsula, it shares borders with China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west. It opens on the East Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
 
The coast stretches over 2000 miles and land borders 2800 miles.  As the crow flies, the distance from north to south is 1000 miles away.
 
The maximum width is 373 miles in the north and 250 miles in the south, while the minimum width is only 31 miles to the Centre in the area of Quang Binh.
 
The hills and mountains represent three quarters of the territory of Vietnam.
